- I'm glad I got the kindle version and only spent $5 on this one. Imagine sitting at a coffee shop with a friend that always gives good advice, you buy them a cup of coffee and have a rich hour-ish long convo about life and what you should do to feel better in general and you have this book. I bought it with high hopes, even had my journal open as I read it, and did many of the activities. But honestly, I learned nothing I didn't know already. As I said, this was like being reminded to do what I already knew I needed. For $5, it was a good reminder, but not earth-shattering. For those of you that have never read a self help book, this is a good starter. For those that have, it is repetitive "Dr Phil (you do know he has no PhD, right)" kind of information.
- I'm so full of joy because of this book and because of the way my life is unfolding, because of the amazing things it's doing for me in my life, I sent the below email to the author himself, yesterday. Hands down, the best self help book I've ever read in my life!

Let me tell you... I posted these three sentences on my bathroom mirror, on my refrigerator, in my truck on the visor, at my desk at work, and in my day planner and moved them from week to week.
1. FEEL the gratitude! Really feel it.
2. Be grateful for what you have... (a bed, breathing, a cup of coffee in the sun)
3. DON'T say "at least I have" - that's not gratitude, that's lack and if you focus on lack you will attract more of it.
Then I began every day, for 5 weeks by thinking of 3 things that I was grateful for and writing them down.
The transformation in my thought process has been astronomical. I've done these types of things before but nothing has ever worked like this. In fact, my cousin and best friend, is going through an ugly divorce right now and when I spoke to her when she first told me, she was in a very bad place. I told her that we needed to do this together and hold each other accountable. We started texting each other, 3 things that we were grateful for every day and only two rules, they had to be real and honest and we couldn't reuse blessings at any point within 7 consecutive days. We both thought this would be very hard, but it turned out we had PLENTY of things to speak of that we are and were grateful for. Not only has it transformed my thought process, but hers as well.
Marc, I am so grateful for YOU! Thank you for writing this book. Most people can only hope to make an impact on one human being at some point in their lifetime. You, my friend have impacted MANY lives, I'm sure of it. Keep doing what you're doing! I'm hoping you count me in as one of your biggest fans!

LD - If Jack Canfield gave our soul chicken soup, Marc Reklau served it up a nice shot of expresso! I love this book! It reads as if you're talking to an excitable best friend; it's a fun read. It starts out like some motivational books do, full of gusto and vigor, but it keeps going while delivering a powerful message sometimes less really IS more. Too often I've taken on a project only to set myself up for failure by having an insane timeline in my head. Marc Reklau has this book set up so it's all paced out really showing not just the necessity, but the true power of forming a habit. Anything you want to change, to have, be or do, this book is a must-have tool in your toolbox for when you achieve your next goal! I highly recommend it and may very soon make it required reading for my own clients, as well.
- This book was recommended to me by a friend, which made it important enough to check out regardless of my reservations towards self-help books. Whether it was because the world is so filled with negativity these days or because my life is at a point when I am re-thinking some of my choices, I don't know, but it has made more impact on me than expected. Good impact. So, once again, life proves that we never know untill we try.
The book is easy to read, offers well-chosen introductory quotes by people worth listening to, and offers truly positive advice. As it progressed, it grew on me and I found myself really answering its questions in my mind, trying out some advice and finding out they do work. It is pro-active all the time, and you might enjoy the special touch - the questions with answer lines left vividly for you to fill, and excellent questions they are. True, it is repetitive at times but those among us, who are reluctant to dare and change, need repetition. The numbers in the title may seem like hokum, but there IS a valid point to them.
I truly admire the author's highly positive tone, not promising instant miracles but gradual, explaining that the change is up to us, offering no excuses and demanding no ridiculous procedures, but truly small steps and persistence. My favourite part is the one about uncluttering and tolerations - it really makes sense to me in my life, and it really does work.
I recommend this book to everyone who needs change, a different angle on problem solving, and, above all, less stress in their lives. We really could all use a bit more positivity nowadays. - I can easily follow the steps in this book. Starting at page one, I can do the easy exercises and absolutely change my thinking. This is not 'positive thinking' or 'affirmations', although those are beneficial. This is 'make a change'. Small shifts, but powerful. Day by day, I have been making these changes and my life has been following along. Because I am the one making the changes and life is reflecting those changes in me, I automatically feel empowered. I no longer have to 'wait' for life to change so that I can feel empowered. I am making it happen. This book has re-awakened the power within me. Thanks Marc, for a powerful, simple book!

- ABSOLUTELY AMAZING BOOK!!! Please disregard all reviews less than 5 stars! This book should be required reading for every human being who lives on the planet! I'm a 54 year old grandfather who served in the Marine Corps (just for a little context). I'm not an emotional person but this book was incredibly moving. R. J. Palacio...I can't believe how she so accurately and consistently pegs human nature. The book is a "novel" - yeah right! This is real life! This is truly like it is. If you ever desired to be a better person, this book can help you start the journey!
- First - Parents need to know that Wonder is about young boy, August Pullman, who has a congenital facial abnormality who has to cope with a range of reactions to his unusual appearance. Some kids use hateful language, and some people suggest that Auggie is mentally deficient. However, goodness wins out, and readers should find it inspiring and uplifting. Author R.J. Palacio writes the book in multiple voices -- Auggie's, some of his friends', his sister's -- and the different points of view are mostly very well-realized and show the inner feelings of the different characters. Wonder by RJ Palacio was astonishing! I think the book was for grades fifth-eighth grade, and adults would like it. This book can teach many different lessons. The one that stood out to me was not to judge by the way someone looked but by the inner character of that person. It is one of the most moving books I have read in a long time, and I am still pretty amazed at how the author wove so much complexity into a story for middle schoolers.Take home messages included, you can count on your parents even if things get tough, sometimes people make mistakes and deserve second chances, sometimes you just have to suck it up and endure and most importantly, in general, things change over time.
- My 5th grader has craniofacial anomalies and I feel that this book could not have been better written. RJ Palacio caught Auggie's voice so well and captured his challenges and strengths so beautifully that I still can't believe that she doesn't have a child who is living this life. I'm not going to try to summarize the story as many other reviewers have done that - I just want to talk about the emotional resonance of the work.
The sheer truth of Auggie's journey is what meant the most to me. There are so many small moments that struck me to the core - e.g. Auggie's feelings about Halloween, the way Auggie has an easier time when his classmates understand that there's more to him than his face, Auggie's struggle to move past his need for coddling, even the food that Auggie eats. The most emotional moment for me came toward the end of the book when Auggie's father tells him that he loves the way Auggie looks, because that it exactly how my husband and I feel about our son.
I wish that everyone would read this book, because it will help them understand the humanity of my son and everyone like him. - I read this book because my daughter was reading it for school. Not long into it, I realized I was reading a masterpiece, one of the finest books I had read of any kind for some time.
One mark of a true classic is that it seems somehow like it always must have existed, in precisely the form that one encounters it. That's the way I felt while reading this -- it read so easily, almost inevitably, as though somehow the story arose from some universal shared unconscious.
Wonder is the story of Auggie Pullman, who suffers from manibulofacial dysostosis, a rare condition of abnormality in the bone development of his face. The story begins with his family's efforts to finally shift him from home schooling to a real middle school, which to date he has been prevented from attending on account of his time spent recovering from various surgeries. The tale is told through various perspectives starting with Auggie's, who shares with us how he has had to become accustomed to the look of shock that comes over even kind people's faces when they first see him. The parents are naturally anxious about how he will be received by the other students, and wonder whether he will be able to experience true friendship.
Wonder is a brisk, accessible read because it is presented in the form of the thoughts of the characters, with no extended, meandering narration to wade through. A couple of aspects struck me as making it an especially remarkable book.
One is how the book doesn't dwell solely on Auggie's struggle alone. Of course Auggie has the roughest time of it. But it's of course also very rough for his parents for obvious reasons, and also on his sister, for the perhaps less obvious reason that she has had to receive less of her parents' attention than she otherwise would, due to Auggie's needs. She finds herself in the awkward situation of many of her own needs not being fully met, and feeling the reality of that, but also not feeling that she is entitled to resent it.
Another aspect that makes this book a treasure is how much one can't help but love several of the characters. Auggie's drawn an unlucky hand in life, but he's also been dealt some advantages he is a smart, capable student, and has a sharp sense of humor that delights those who bother to get to know him. He also is lucky for some of the remarkable people around him his parents, his sister Via, the remarkable middle school director Mr. Tushman, his English teacher Mr. Browne, Via's friend Miranda who adores Auggie, and two wonderful friends from school, Summer and Jack Will. Jack Will in particular grabbed my heart - a boy of modest means amid more affluent classmates, who suffers socially for his friendship with Auggie. Sometimes the book seems to depict an almost unrealistically good world, in that the fortitude of so many brave, kind people overcomes the hostile social forces surrounding Auggie. Realistic or not, it's certainly a compelling world.
Finally, the book is filled with moments of wonderful insight. Jack Will's mother is sacrificing enormously to send him to an expensive school, but the only thing that seems to truly trouble her is when she fears for a moment her children would be less than kind to someone else. Via helps Auggie to understand that, however great his challenge, he cannot live a truly fulfilling life until he realizes that other people too have problems that, if not as great as his, are nevertheless worth his compassion. Mr. Browne presents words to live by that are for the reader's benefit as much as Auggie's. And I so wish every school could have a Mr. Tushman as its head. He shrewdly understands the dynamics surrounding Auggie, and applies a subtle, yet powerful loving hand in helping Auggie triumph over adversity.
Wonder is a book that, once read, will never leave your heart and memory. - I am 9 and i liked the book. its good for kids who like to read. The book teaches many lessons witin the storyline. It's excellent. A fun read with a few sad moments.
I gave it five stars for kids😊 - LOVE IT! I finished the book a week ago but I plan to read it again soon. It's a lovely story with a powerful and all-too-important message, but was definitely carried out subtly and beautifully. I was a little surprised how moved I was, granted that it seems like it's a book for young kids, but I grew emotionally attached to most of its characters. Everyone in the story seems so ordinary, except for the main protagonist of course, yet extraordinary in their own way. It makes me appreciate life and experiences that are usually taken for granted. I wish all parents and teachers would encourage their kids to read the story or read it to them!!
PS. For those who want to wait and watch movie instead, I really and highly recommend the book first! Happy reading!

Told from each character’s distinct point of view, this narrative is about each young woman navigating the dynamics of sex, love and heartbreak in college. Being outcasts in their own right, these four young women ultimately forge a very unique bond.

- This is my first time reading a book by this author and it was recommended by another author that I read all the time. I was not disappointed at all. Ms. Johnni Sherri's words flowed effortlessly and kept me interested. I love to see the trails and tribulations of young relationship. I can't wait to see the characters develop. I can do without Asha because I feel like she just one of those people that can't get right. If you off the bat don't like someone that has never done nothing but be nice to you than there us no hope. Now I love Franki, Paris and Hope. I live that they were themselves no matter what others thought of them. An HBCU was definitely a culture shock for Paris and Hope but they didn't change whi they were. Now I love the guys because they didn't try and change the girls. Yes Josh wanted to change Franki's outlook on faith but not her personality. Now Meeko and Chi were sweethearts for real. They had to deal with two totally different people from themselves. I am definitely on the side of love for real. Part 2 seems to coming with alot of drama but good vibes as well....
- This was my first read by Johnni Sherri, but it won’t be my last. The words flowed off the pages so smoothly, as each scene played out like a movie in my head. So many shocking and unexpected moments I couldn’t put the book down. I read this book in one sitting. OMG! The characters reality was so real. I hated and loved them all the same. No spoilers, but that ending had my mouth wide open..I need part 2… Neow! lol ..Hope & Franki might be my favs though
- Mannnnnn!! Where do I begin, from the gate I was hooked. Meeting the ladies and reading how they interact because they are from different backgrounds draws you in. Adding the fellas is the icing on the cake. Paris, Fankie, and Hope are my favorites, I can do without Asha messy and bitter self. Also, love me some Josh, Meeko, and Chi. I was on a rollercoaster ride of emotions while reading this book. I laughed, damn near cried, got angry and was definitely shocked!! I’m already anticipating part 2 to find out how the characters develop and the drama that’s sure to come.
- Once again Johnni Sherri came with the heat! Each girl was unique and I loved every one of their individual stories. The fellas too! At this point I don't even think I can name a favorite couple! I hope they all work out and I pray that Asha, despite being a total female ðŸ¶, finds her way. While they all seem to be bumping their heads and finding their way, she's the most lost of them all! Her butt needs a healing and should have been right in that church with Josh and Frankie! Great job and I can't wait for part two!
- Johnni Sherri has impressed me again with her writing skills. I enjoyed getting to know Frankie, Paris, Hope, and even Asha. Being able to see college life from the four different perspectives was incredible. Character chemistry is on point and allows the story to flow smoothly from beginning to end. I’m desperate to see what happens in the next installment.
T - I could not turn these pages fast enough and at certain moments in the book I really tried to read s-l-o-w just so I wouldn’t finish it too soon. Finished it in a day! The characters were relatable and their individual stories intriguing. Yeah, I’m looking forward to the follow up because that ending left me stunned!

- You know I thought Hope was the naive one, but it was Paris spoiled ass. I hope Marko get everything right with Hope. As a don't love Asha. I am glad Jaxon introduced her to his girlfriend. Lady, you did a wonderful job. Please don't make us wait long for book two. Thank you, good job.

John Morrill was a Lieutenant Commander in the U.S. Navy. In June 1939 he became commanding officer of the minesweeper U.S.S. Quail. Pete Martin was a journalist and author. Their book South from Corregidor was first published in 1943. Pete Martin passed away in 1980 and John Morrill passed away in 1997.

- Let me start by saying this book is truly like no other book I have ever read on the topic of World War Two. It reads like something that should have been made into a movie starring Humphry Bogart great actor like Burt Lancaster.
It is a wonderful, gritty read, about men who defy the odds and try to escape Corregidor as the Japanese accept the surrender of American forces in the Philippines. It shows their anger, concern and desire to escape what they saw as a disaster. They wanted to take their chances.
And they did. They sank their primary ship and took off on a thirty foot half-open boat with the idea of finding Australia. However, in the haste to leave the area they managed to leave without maps and sextant. This is the story of how they survived, may have even thrived in some areas, and managed to do the impossible.
Inside of this book you’ll read what it was like to take big risks. They hid from Japanese patrols, aircraft and even destroyers. They ate what they could find and may have even run into South Pacific cannibals in their quest to escape imprisonment by the Japanese.
But I don’t want to spoil this adventure for you. So I won’t say more.
I have two regrets in regards to this book. The first is simply finding this book so late in my studies. It’s a wonderful read. It’s a treasure like finding Etched in Purple One Soldier’s War in Europe by Frank Irgang. In fact, I think they were published within a year of each other about 1943.
The other regret is I’ve not found a copy of the first edition, yet. - With men and leadership like this we could not lose any war. Hero’s in action and escape, the boat and the distance traveled, mostly in enemy controlled waters, speak for the incredible tale of survival and leadership. But the details were even better with the daring of landing through dangerous surf to confront strange, possibly dangerous peoples, let alone Japanese troops or sympathizers ashore. To repair and keep afloat their small boat, to stay healthy and single purposed with skill, good will, and discipline speaks to the high moral purpose of these men and the accomplishment of all American men and women who won WWII. Many of these books, first hand accounts of the War, are not easy to read, regardless of the brave story because of the writing style. Most were not written by professional writers. I found this particular raw style fun to read. The vernacular and phrasing is pure American GI, determined, even cocky, streetwise and often very witty and entertaining. I only wish it were more detailed and longer. It’s one of the great group survival and war stories, and I’ve read them all. Up till now!
- Outstanding book and most excellent, (and pleasurable), to read. Truly a story within a story. This escape from the "rock" of the island of Corregidor, Republic of the Philippines, was written in December 1942 and printed in March 1943. The wording and vernacular magically transports the reader back in time. The author and Captain of the 36 foot diesel boat, (that escaped the wrath of the Japanese), Lieutenant Commander John Morrill, writes about one of his shipmates who's stammering problem is akin to that of the likes of the King of England. Morrill has a plethora of similar references to different movie stars and other notables of that timeline. He often refers to WWI as the World War, (apparently WWII didn't have it's moniker when John wrote about his odyssey).
The heroics of this 18 man crew and how they jelled as a team is inspirational. Their 31 day, 2000 mile escape to freedom is just downright phenomenal. John also talks about Longaskagawayan Point and his mission there, (before the fall of Bataan). He was told to put the kibosh on the Japanese by shelling them from the sea via his mine laying ship, the USS Quail. He mentions that the concrete poured for the pill boxes on that mountain coastline, (just west of the Island of Corregidor), were 2 - 5 years old. Meaning the Japanese had some serious plans that were in the works for years prior to the start of WWII. I have had the pleasure of visiting the "rock" when I was stationed at Clark AB, RPI, and remember quite distinctly that mountain side. The locals referred to it as "Kamayian Point". Kamay meaning hand in Tagalog. That side of the mountain jutted out from the Bataan peninsula in five fingers, (if you will), and was thought to be the ideal offensive position for the Japanese Imperial Army -- as it overlooked all shipping coming into and out of Manila Bay. It was reported that of the 400 Japanese defending that point, only 5 survived that deadly shelling, via the USS Quail and the big guns of Corregidor.
A must read for the WWII enthusiast. Most of the 18 man crew that escaped went on to serve the US Navy for 20 - 30 years. John Morrill retired as a Rear Admiral. I'd rate this book six stars if I could. Grab yourself a copy and enjoy the boat ride to freedom! - factual account of determined and disciplined American sailors sailing in and out of sometimes hostile waters, dodging Jap aircraft, shooting some down, etc, etc. what is perhaps most poignant the cooperation of the Phillipino islanders who despised the enemy more than we did.
Americans have a very short memory and are too quick to forgiver and embrace. More war history should be taught to our students and read by our people
